Roswell Criterium 1st Annual "Fixed Gear Fever" Race
Breaking News!!!
We will be having a "fixie" race this year. Here are the details.
1) All participants must ride a "fixed" gear bike. Singlespeeds do not qualify
2) Brakes are optional. If you feel comfortable without them, that's cool with us
3) Race Registration is Day of Race Only. No online registration
4) All riders must wear an approved cycling helmet. The Roswell Criterium reserves the right to remove riders from the field who do not meet this criteria
5) Race start time is 3:55pm. Registration closes 30 minutes prior to the start (3:25pm)
6) All participants must wait in the staging area (Canton St. & Thompson St.) prior to the start of the race. Warming up on the course is not allowed after 10:00am. USA Cycling Officials will remove riders who warm up on the course during the event without permission.
7) Entry fee is $20.00. All riders must have a valid USA Cycling license. One-Day licenses can be purchased on the day of the race.
Road Closure Times
These are approximate road closures. There are times when they actually close a little earlier. Be prepared and get there early.
Green St. - 8:00am
Norcross St. - 8:00am
State Route 9 - 8:00am
Canton St. - 8:30am
Woodstock St. - 10:00am
Roads re-open at approximately 8:30-9:00pm
Soladay and Pic Win 2009 Pro Races
Tom Soladay (Team Mtn. Khakis) took the biggest win of his career at the 2009 Historic Roswell Criterium. The 25-year-old from Bethesda, MD finished by taking the title in the second race of USA Crits Speed Week, and a $500 prime on the penultimate lap, ahead of Kyle Walmsley (Colavita/Sutter Home p/b Cooking Light) and Zach Bell (Kelly Benefit Strategies), who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. The men averaged 29 miles per h our for the Pro 1 80-minute contest that capped the day’s festivities.
In the Pro ½ Women’s Race, Buford, Ga-resident Tina Pic (Colavita/Sutter Home p/b Cooking Light) won her 6th Historic Roswell Criterium in eight years. She edged out runner-up Brooke Miller (Team Tibco) and third-place finisher Jen McRae (Team Type 1).
There were over 450 elite cyclists who competed April 26, 2009 on the one-mile, tree-lined, Historic Roswell course under sunny skies. Another 400 recreational cyclists took part in the annual Mayor’s Ride at 8:00 a.m., and close to 125 children (ages 3 to 12) participated in the Bicycle Safety Rodeo and Shimano Youth Series Kids’ Races.CLICK HERE to read VeloNews.com story
2008 Pro Race Results
The Champions in the Pro 1/2 races at the 2008 Historic Roswell Criterium were Australian Caleb Manion (Toyota United) in the men's category and American Tina Mayolo-Pic (Colavita). Look for Manion to defend his title in 2009 as a member of Rock Racing. Mayolo-Pic, a three-time USA Cycling National Racing Calendar champion and Georgia resident, will defend her title racing for Colavita/Sutter Home.
